500 Amnesty delegates from more than 80 countries will gather at an international conference next week in Dublin to vote on whether to advocate the elimination of all penalties for sex work, on the grounds that it is a matter of privacy between consenting adults. Simply put, the Human Right group will vote on a new policy that calls for the global decriminalization of sex trafficking.
The sex-trade policy, according to the group is the best way to respect, protect, and fulfill the human rights of sex workers.
Its Deputy Executive Director, Cammie Croft said, "Sex workers are one of the most marginalized groups in the world so it is important that we understand how, as Amnesty International, we can work to support their human rights.
The violations that sex workers can be exposed to include physical and sexual violence, arbitrary arrest and detention, extortion and harassment, human trafficking, forced HIV testing and medical interventions" “They can also be excluded from health care and housing services and other social and legal protection.” she added. -

In an interview with Sahara TV yesterday, the General
Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, said
he is not expecting to be appointed a minister in President
Buhari's cabinet.
"As far as I am concerned, I am not expecting to be named a
minister. If I am offered an appointment, when I get to that
bridge I will cross it. I am already a minister of the gospel.
Ministry is my calling and my life. The word minister means
servant. When you expect nothing, you cannot be
disappointed. I keep on doing what I am doing, to be a solid
supporter of the Buhari movement and what he stands for in
public life. I have no regret on what I did in 2011. If an
opportunity presents itself, I will do it again. I am not seeking
anything.
“Let’s not count chickens before they are hatched. The bible
says the expectation of the righteous will not be cut off. That
is when the expectation of the righteous is in tandem with
God’s expectation. If you are expecting from God, the flesh
can fail. Who knows tomorrow? In the next two months,
when the ministers would be named, what if nobody is here
or alive? ”

Kenzie Kilpatrick's eighth child was born last week. He is
thrilled, showing me a picture on his phone of the girl - as
yet unnamed - who arrived on Tuesday, July 21, at 10.44am,
weighing 6lb 15oz.
He reads out a message from the mother, which says: 'I'm
so happy to tell you that our little miracle baby girl is here.
All thanks to you. She is beautiful.'
The 26-year-old looks as proud as any new dad, but Kenzie
will play no further part in this child's life.
Nor will he be a parent to his 7 other biological children - all
born, one after the other, in the past 3 months or the 2 who
are due any time now.
So, 3 daughters, 5 sons, including twin boys, and counting.
Half-siblings who share their father's DNA, but not each
other's lives or indeed Kenzie's continued presence as they
grow up
Kenzie, a single gay man, this week emerged as one of
Britain's most prolific freelance sperm donors. Dubbed 'the
Sperminator' by one radio station, at this rate - 10 babies in
fewer than 4 months - he could father 300 children in a
decade.
'When the last 2 babies are born, I will have fathered 10
children, all under 4 months old. It's amazing and I feel so
proud,' says Kenzie, who has taken the rare step of speaking
publicly about the hidden world of independent sperm
donors.
So far he has helped 9 lesbian couples and1 heterosexual
couple to become parents.
'It feels fantastic to have helped so many people in such a
short space of time, but I've decided to stop for now. I may
help provide siblings to my existing couples, but while I
would never say never, I'm not on a mission to populate the
world.'
Kenzie, who says he accepts no payment other than travel
expenses, recites the name of each of his genetic children as
he counts them on his fingers, but adds: 'Please don't ask
me their birthdates. There are too many of them, I get
confused and really they're not my kids. Any man can father
a child, but it takes a parent to love them and bring them up.
I see them as donations.'
Ever since Kenzie first offered his services for free in June
last year via his Facebook group, called Drama Free UK
Sperm Donors, he says he has been inundated with
hundreds of requests from women desperate for a child.
Operating outside strict regulations which govern clinics
licensed by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology
Authority, Kenzie has no moral issue with fathering children
by women willing to take a risk with someone who is
effectively a stranger.

Members of the National Association of Delta State Students,
NADESSTU, have threatened to shut down the capital city of
Asaba, if their 2013/2014 bursary was not paid in the next
two weeks.
NADESSTU in a communiqué at the end of its emergency
meeting at Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, said that the
students were no longer happy with the development, adding
that any further delay in the payment of the bursary may lead
to students’ unrest in the state.
The communiqué by Shaka Emomine, National President and
others, decried that the student community was losing faith
in the national leadership of the association over the issue.
The communiqué, read:
“The national leadership of the association will no longer
stand any chance of losing or jeopardizing the trust
bestowed on us by our fellow students whom we were
elected to serve and protect their interest.
“Therefore, the Delta State Government is hereby issued a
two-week ultimatum to come up with the payment of the
Delta State Students Bursary/Scholarships Award or risk a
state wide protest from the students with its main target
being the state capital, Asaba with a magnitude of protest
capable of bringing all commercial activities in the beautiful
city to a halt until the cries of the students are listened to.”

The Imo State Governor and Chairman of All Progressives
Congress, APC, Governors’ Forum, Chief Rochas Okorocha,
has urged all Christian leaders in the country to throw their
weight behind the anti-corruption crusade and policies of
President Mohammadu Buhari.
Okorocha made the appeal when he played host to the
national leadership of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria,
PFN, led by its National President, Rev. Dr. Felix Omobude, at
the Government House, Owerri.
He said:
“Church leaders and leaders of religious groups like the
Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, should play a leading role
in the fight against corruption in the country and should
therefore back Mr. President in his effort to fight the monster
called corruption”.
He also called on the visiting PFN leaders build Pentecostal
University of Nigeria in the state and promised to give them
a piece of land and the sum of N100 million take off grant,
any time they are ready to start the project.
“It is unfortunate that the past government succeeded in
dividing the nation along ethnic and religious lines.  And that
creates the impression that any time a Christian is a
president, the Muslims will feel humiliated and vice-versa.  I
urge all the Christians and non-Northerners to see this
government as their own, and be part of it. We must support
it and benefit from it because all Nigerians are meant to
benefit from the administration”, Okorocha said.
It was the Governor’s considered opinion that “the  nation is
passing through a difficult moment occasioned by bad
management of the resources of Nigeria”, stressing that
Christians did not just pray to get a government in power,
they should also pray to sustain the government and ensure
that the nation enjoys good leadership.
In his speech, the PFN boss, Rev. Dr. Felix Omobude, said
the body would work closely with the government at all levels
for the good of the nation and Nigerians as a people,
advising that the federal government should begin to
address some of the excesses that have held this country
down.
Rev. Omobude explained that “for Nigeria to become the
strong nation, we should all begin to build strong families,
and also build bridges of unity and ensure values.

A middle-aged woman is currently recuperating in a Lagos
hospital, after robbers stormed her rented apartment on the
Lagos Island, during which she stabbed one of the assailants
to death.
It was learnt that the woman, identified simply as Adenike,
and her family were attacked on Tuesday at about 2am on
Eyin Iga Street. It was gathered that the robbers, who were
armed with knives and cutlasses, reportedly gained entrance
into the house after damaging the gates.
It was also learnt that when the robbers got to Adenike’s
apartment, a struggle ensued between Adenike and one of
the robbers, identified as Quadri Iginla, who cut her with a
knife. Adenike was said to have wrenched the knife from
Iginla, and stabbed him in the stomach.
The robbery suspect reportedly lost balance and fell off from
the two-storey building. Neighbours, who learnt of the
robbery, were said to have alerted the police at the Adeniji
Adele Division.
The other suspected robbers reportedly escaped after the
police got to the area. The policemen were said to have
rushed Iginla, who was unconscious, to the Lagos Island
General Hospital, while Adenike was also taken by her family
to a private hospital.
Unfortunately, Iginla died in the hospital.
Adenike’s husband, who declined to give his name, said the
robbers injured his wife.
He said,
“We cannot confirm the number of the robbers. They entered
my apartment at about 2am. One of the injured my wife in the hand and there was a struggle. As this went on, other people called the police and a patrol van was sent to our street. “The robbers quickly fled from the house. One of them, who had sustained a knife injury, fell off the staircases. The policemen took him to a hospital for
treatment.”
A police source said that Iginla was not attended to at the
general hospital for lack of a vacant bed.
He added that the robbery suspect died at a health center on the Adeniji Adele Road.
He said:
“The police patrol team responded to a distress call on the street at about 2.30am. A male robbery suspect, Iginla, was found injured. The suspect and others, who are still at large, allegedly entered Adenike’s room. While making away with possessions, the woman overpowered one of them, and stabbed him in the stomach. “She was also injured in the
hand. During the struggle, others escaped, but the robber fell
off the building. The police took the suspect and the victim to
the hospital.”
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that
Iginla’s girlfriend showed up at the police station, and
wanted to know where he was being treated.
He said,
“No one in the area knew the identity of the robber. His
girlfriend showed up at the station, and was asking the
police to let her stay with him, but they did not allow her.”
The knife has since been recovered, while the case had been
transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation.

Angry workers of the Peoples Democratic Party have
accused the members of the National Working Committee of
the party of squandering N12bn in nine months.
The workers claim that N11bn was realised from the sale of
nomination forms while N1bn was gotten from the sale of
delegates forms.
They alleged that the money was squandered shortly after
the sale of the forms began on October 27, 2014 till date.
The workers said this in their response to the letter sent to
them by the party’s National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo,
on Wednesday.
Oladipo, in the letter, informed workers about the decision of
the NWC to reduce the party’s workforce by 50% and to also
cut the salaries of those to be retained by the same
percentage.
The national secretary of the party said the decision, among
others, would take effect from August. He said:
“Establishment staff who would remain are required to obtain
individual letters of revalidation from their state chapters
within one month of this circular to their suitability for
service at the national secretariat.”
However, after a meeting in Abuja on Thursday, the workers
sent a reply to Oladipo yesterday titled, “Re: Organisation and
Restructuring of staff at the national secretariat of the
Peoples Democratic Party.” They sent copies of the letter,
which was exclusively obtained by Punch, to former
President Goodluck Jonathan and the acting Chairman,
Board of Trustees of the party, Alhaji Haliru Bello.
Copies were also sent to the Deputy Senate President, Ike
Ekweremadu, PDP caucuses in both the Senate and the
House of Representatives, Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum,
Dr. Segun Mimiko and all the PDP governors.
Besides querying how the N11bn was spent, the workers
also said they were aware that the party realised another
N1bn in sales of delegates forms recently. With this, the
angry workers wondered how the party that was in power
could be in a financial crisis.
Their letter to Oladipo read in part,
“While we appreciate the fact that the party is no longer in
power, we are equally aware that the party realised over
eleven billion naira (N11,000,000,000) in income from the
sale of nomination and expression of interest forms in the
last quarter of 2014.
“We are equally aware that the NWC collected over a billion
naira from the sale of delegate forms via a company account
called Morufi Nig. Ltd, Zenith Bank Account N0:1014041654.
“With this healthy bank balance, we find it strange that after
just two months of handing over power, the NWC is
proposing a 50% reduction in staff emoluments.”
“We have also observed from publications in the media that
the NWC shared outrageous largesse among themselves
immediately after the party’s loss in the last general
elections. “We are appalled by the whimsical and derisory
nature of the circular which unfortunately negates all known
administrative procedures. We wish to recall that the national
secretary, who is statutorily in charge of the administration
of the secretariat, has never called for a staff meeting or held
any interactive session with the staff since his privileged
appointment.
“We wish to draw the national secretary’s attention to the
fact that there are administrative procedures for the
disengagement of staff whose appointments have been duly
confirmed.”
The workers said they welcomed the decision of the NWC
members to reduce their personal staff and also reduce their
emoluments. But they said they rejected “the directives for
staff members to get revalidation letters from the state
chapters as this act will amount to accepting our unlawful
disengagement from service.
“We reject in totality the proposal to reduce staff emolument
by 50%. This is because unlike the members of the NWC, the
staff are solely dependent on their salaries and allowances.”
They said they still have unwavering belief in the possibility
of the party bouncing back, and, therefore, urged the NWC to
have the same faith. The workers reminded the NWC
members that the establishment staff of the PDP national
secretariat were engaged on the basis of a well-articulated
establishment manual that expressly stated the conditions of
service therein.

The former Governor of Anambra State met with some
journalists in the state recently where he spoke on various
burning national issues. Of note was the alleged
mismanagement of Nigeria's economy by Dr. Ngozi Okonjo
Iweala.
"It is rather unfortunate that we have this attitude of
trying to pull down our best. Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala
is a global star and only came back to serve her
country and she did that with passion. We gain
nothing trying to pull her down. We did it with
Arunma Otteh, but we know what she is today. I
have been in several meetings where this woman
(Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala) was almost crying as she
explained and pleaded with all and sundry on the
need to save for the rainy day.
She advised that proceeds from excess crude sales
should be saved in the Sovereign National Wealth
Fund for effective management. I have read
newspaper reports that it is ironic that she spoke of
a rainy day when it was already pouring. I personally
remain indebted to her because it was from her
persistent preaching on the need to save in the
Sovereign National Wealth Fund that made me
incorporate savings in foreign currency – that is why
one third of the money we left on leaving office was
in foreign currency, $156 million(N25 billion at that
time).
With interest now it would be about $170 million and
with the current rate it is almost N40 billion. My
position in all this is that we must cultivate the
attitude of saving as a country. Excess crude money
should be saved in the Sovereign Wealth Fund. No
country will survive without saving for the future.
Even in animal kingdom, the ants save for the rainy
day. We must save bearing in mind that natural
resources that we enjoy today are depleting assets."

The Anambra State president of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr. Chris
Eluemuno, said yesterday in an interview with Anambra
Broadcasting Service in Awka that he's not surprised at the
way the appointments of President Buhari is going, saying it
shows the president's deep rooted hatred for the Igbos..
“I said it during the campaigns that General Buhari
does not like Igbo people and it is happening now
with all the appointments he has so far made since
he came into office on May 29. He appointed five
service chiefs and there is no Igbo man, even though
Igbo have qualified people to occupy the positions.
His party has completed the selection of principal
officers in the national assembly and despite the fact
that the speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara made case to
apply the federal character in allocating the offices,
the president jettisoned it through his intervention
and left Igbo APC lawmakers out.
“He also exhibited his vindictiveness during his
recent visit to the United States of America, USA,
when he travelled with only governors from his party,
leaving out governors from the opposition parties.
“He was also quoted as saying that he would favour
those who voted for him and our position is that
there is no way the president should expect all
Nigerians to vote for him in the last presidential
election.That statement contradicted Buhari’s earlier
stand that he belonged to everybody and belonged to
nobody.”
Eluemuno also said that Buhari had no reason to
discriminate against the Igbo because Igbonation played
prominent roles in the development of Nigeria and should
therefore not be discriminated against in the scheme of
things.
According to him, apart from the Secretary to the
Government of Federation, SGF, the remaining appointments
are ministers and board members, which constitutionally
must go to all the 36 states of the federation, adding that
appointing an Igbo minister would not therefore be a favour
to them.
On the president’s threat to probe only the Jonathan
administration, Eluemuno said it would amount to witch hunt
if he limited it to the immediate past administration, advising
that the probe should start from the PDP civilian
administration that began 16 years ago with Chief Olusegun
Obasanjo, who governed for eight years.

While speaking to African leaders at the African Union Headquarters in Ethiopia today July 28th, President Obama asked African leaders to leave office whenever their tenure comes to an end and shaded the heck out of Mugabe and Burundi president. What he said below...
"I am in my second term. Its been an extraordinary privilege for me to serve as President of the United States. I love my work but under our constitution I cannot run again. I actually think I am a pretty good president. I think if I ran I could win. But I can't. So there is a lot that I will like to do to keep America moving but the law is the law and no one person is above the law. Not even the president. And I will be honest with you.
I am looking forward to life after being president. I wouldn't have such a big security detail all the time. It means I can go take a walk. I can spend time with my family. I can find other ways to serve. I can visit Africa more often. The funny thing is I don't understand why people want to stay so long especially when they have got a lot of money. When a leader tries to change the rules in the middle of the game just to stay in office, it risks instability and strife as we have seen in Burundi. Sometimes you hear a leader say well I am the only person who can hold this nation together. If that's true, then that leader has failed to build their nation. You look at Nelson Mandela. Madiba like George Washington forged a lasting legacy not only because of what they did in office but because they were wiling to leave office, transfer power peacefully. Just as the African Union have condemned coups and illegitimate transfers of power, the AU and other strong voices can also help the people of Africa ensure their leaders abide by term limits under their constitution. Nobody should be president for life" he said
