Anambra Police Command yesterday debunked speculations that it invited the Chief Executive Officer of Capital Oil and Gas Limited and frontline governorship aspirant, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah for questioning. The command stated that it never at any time invite him and that he (Uba) had no question to answer. Shortly after Ubah joined the Labour Party (LP) at the weekend, rumour filtered into Awka and the social media carried it that Ubah was invited by the Police for questioning over an alleged petition to the Command by an unnamed aspirant that Uba was intimidating his supporters. It was gathered that before Ubah joined Labour Party, five other gubernatorial aspirants had respectively made vain frantic efforts through the former leadership of the party in the state to be the candidate of the party for the forthcoming governorship election before the leadership was sacked. But refuting the invitation allegation, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka (DSP) warned people to be cautious of the type of information they give out to the public. He warned that Police would not take kindly with anyone peddling false rumour that might threaten the peace of the state. He said, “As I speak with you, the State Police Commissioner is not in town. So when was the invitation made? I am not aware of any invitation by the Police Command and I do not see anything that would warrant that. Ifeanyi Ubah was never invited by the Police and we do not have any reason from our records or files to invite him. “I want to use this medium to advise the public, especially politicians to be very vigilant over the type of information that is peddled before them by their colleagues.” This is election period and desperate politicians would want to use all manner of allegations to run down their opponents. But the command warns that the law has an answer to such illegal act and the Police would be compelled to execute it.”
Also reacting, the Media Assistant to Ifeanyi Ubah, Mr. Afam Ilouno said that his principal would not be derailed by the antics of detractors, as he was focused on rescuing the state. He said, “Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah is focused towards serving the people and to rescue the people from inhuman governance. So he cannot be derailed by the antics of detractors from the powers-that- be and their cohorts. This group of people who have refused to subject themselves to democratic process should know that the will of the people shall always be permanent.”Meanwhile, Dr. Ubah has explained that his joining Labour Party was also informed by the litany of litigations in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) which he said, he had always had sympathy for, stressing that it was unfortunate that some undemocratic forces and some elements who had things to hide made sure that the litigations continued.
