Don't drink and dial, especially if you plan to call 911.
On March 30, an intoxicated Florida woman called the emergency number because she was lonely, police said.
Vero Beach resident Fleurette French, 64, called 911 and reported a medical issue, along with the fact that she had been drinking, according to the Indian River County Sheriff's Office. Emergency responders arrived and found that French "was in no obvious distress." However, she was "highly intoxicated."
A firefighter/medic told the officer, who arrived on the scene at 8:10 p.m., that French said the "real reason she called 911 was 'because she was lonely,'" according to an arrest affidavit.
It turned out French had drunkenly called 911 five other times over the previous eight days, authorities said, and she was taken to the hospital after each instance.
After the Indian River Medical Center determined that French "did not have any medical diagnosis," she was arrested and charged with abuse of 911.
