Banks in Akure, the Ondo State capital were on Thursday shut down by bank officials for fear of armed robbery attack.
This happened as rumours went round that armed robbers were sighted in some parts of the state capital.
All the banks in the city locked out the customers from 8am and instructed their security guards to leave their duty posts so they would not have to answer questions.
Customers were left stranded in front of various banks and had to go back to their destinations disappointed.
Mr. Joseph Abiodun who works with the Federal Medical Centre in Owo town said he was in Akure to cash a cheque, but his hope had been dashed by the action.
