Yesterday, among the sixty-four suspects paraded were the abductors of the female broadcaster with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Mrs. Bunmi Oke and also suspected kidnappers of a woman said to be the wife of erstwhile Pertoleum Minister, Professor Tam David West, Taye by the police in Ondo State.
Patrick Dukumor, the Police Commissioner, while parading the suspects in Akure, said in all, 47 robbery suspects including five cultists and Oladejo Olalere, a 300-level Accounting student of the University of Ado Ekiti, were arrested within the last two months.
According to Dukumor, “The kidnappers collected a ransom of N3 million from the families of the former minister’s wife while those of NTA staff paid N1 million before their relation was set free.”
Further on in his briefing, as Dukumor gave a detailed account of how Taye was abducted, “Seven kidnappers invaded the rsidence of the former minister’s wife in Aiyedun area of Akure metropolis and abducted her but were arrested in Owo area of the state.”
The police chief said that they traced the abductors to Edo State on the case of the NTA staff, where one Michael Onaibre was arrested with the nursing mother’s Blackberry phone.
Also paraded at Akura was a Higher National Diploma holder, Akinjide Daniel who was later arrested in Lagos State. Daniel hacked into a bank’s website through which he was able to send fake bank alert to a dealer from whom Daniel fraudulently purchased a car worth N1.6 million in Akure.
Among those who were also paraded were car snatchers that were arrested in Army Barracks following an intelligence that they used to hide the stolen cars there. Dukumor added that, “one Honda Accord car with number plate SQ 147 AAA was stolen from one Adebayo Oluwajemiluyi but later recovered after it had been re-painted and re-registered as KSF 154 BC.
However, Dukumor affirmed that war against crime and criminality in the state was a continuous process and enjoined the general public to support the police to curb it.
