Eight people are confirmed dead after a police
helicopter crashed into the roof of a pub in central Glasgow,
Chief Constable Stephen House of Police Scotland said
Saturday.
Three of the dead were the crew of the helicopter, House
said, while the remaining five were people found in the
building.
Fourteen people remain seriously injured in Glasgow
hospitals, House said. Earlier, police said 32 in total were
taken to local hospitals.
The helicopter crashed into the pub as it was packed with
Friday night customers. The search for survivors continued
overnight into Saturday.
House said the rescue and recovery operation was "very
sensitive" and would continue for many days yet.
"You can imagine the terror of the situation when a
helicopter came through the top of the building -- there
were well over 100 people (there)," he said, as he praised
those who helped pull the injured from the rubble.

Idris Elba, Actor - Sierra Leone/Ghana
A much sought-after film and television actor, Elba was
born in London to a Sierra Leonean father and Ghanaian
mother. He has taken both Hollywood and TV acting by
storm, in hits such as The Wire and Luther . But film critics
believe his lead character in the recently released the film
adaption of Nelson Mandela’s autobiography Long Walk To
Freedom, – which has already been awarded the British
Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Los Angeles
Britannia Humanitarian Award – could be the- game
changing role of his career.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Author - Nigeria
Adichie is unstoppable. 2013 has been yet another good
year for this daughter of Nigerian soil with two major
accomplishments to file under her name: the release, to
unprecedented acclaim, of her much anticipated novel
Americanah and the release of the movie adaptation of her
novel Half of a Yellow Sun , starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and
Thandie Newton. Yes, it has been a good year, but Adichie
does not look like a lady who will be slowing down in 2014.
As someone who is not afraaid to confront the difficult
subjects of race, gender and politics, and is a proud African,
who continues to campaign against the one-story narrative
about Africa, we can't wait to see what she will do next.
Alek Wek , Supermodel - South Sudan
The influential fashion magazine I:D has dubbed her “Model
of the Decade”. The US’s People magazine listed her as one
of the “50 Most Beautiful People”. But the Sudanese
model’s influence extends far beyond the fashion world and
societal concepts of beauty. As a former refugee, Alek

is a world- acclaimed role model who transcends her
industry.

the film adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s award-

Bandele. His portrayal of former South African president
Thabo Mbeki in the new Channel 4 drama Endgame was
also another stellar performance. Prior to the theatre
release of both films, Ejiofor won critical acclaim for his
portrayal of Patrice Lumumba in A Season in The Congo, a
theatre production about the first democratically elected
leader of the DRCongo at The Young Vic theatre in London.
Born to Nigerian parents in the UK, the award-winning actor

deserving actor he is. Will 2014 be his year?

ground-breaking MTV Base series Shuga , about “the lives

by Time magazine for their annual Time 100 list. Her debut
reality show, Omotola: The Real Me, made headlines as the
most popular TV series across Africa. But that was not all!
It fixated her millions of fans, revealing fascinating insights
into one of Africa’s most recognised faces. She is also

marvellous blend of R&B, Hip Hop and Dancehall songs.”
Hit after hit, the twin brothers have become apt at giving

“Everyone had an initiation that you had to go
through on the youth team, that was one of the most
uncomfortable ones. The fact that I had to look at
Clayton Blackmore’s calendar and do certain things.
I was embarrassed when I was saying it on camera
let alone talking about it more. But it’s something
that we all had to go through. It was definitely
something I wouldn’t like to go through again!'

Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo today Friday November
29th apologized for the comments he made to a widow in
Benin during an inspection tour on Mission Road, in the
state capital, a fortnight ago.
Oshiomhole said that he now regretted the comments
which had become the subject of discourse in the social
media. The Governor said that he made the comments in
anger.
The governor’s apology was made when the leadership of
the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria
(FOMWAN), paid him a courtesy visit in Benin. Continue...
He noted that though the challenge of modern times had
bestowed on the shoulders of some women and single
mothers the status of bread winners of their homes, such
should not be used as an accuse to flout the laws.
The Governor urged the Muslim women leaders to use their
offices to propagate the essence of healthy living among
children and women in the nation and the need to maintain
proper sanitary conditions in their neighbourhoods.
Oshiomhole lamented that the challenge of widowhood had
also exposed children to different temptations, adding that
there was the need for society to be careful, to avoid
unwittingly creating more problems for the nation.
He noted that money was not the best thing that
guaranteed ones happiness, “but honesty and selfless
service.
The Governor added that if Muslims and Christians were
adequately committed to their religious doctrines, the world
would be a better place.
He urged the women to propagate the message of Islam
through the nooks and crannies of the nation, and to also
inculcate the values of honesty in their followers.
Oshiomhole, however, assured the association of
government’s support in ensuring that its present
leadership made remarkable progress and also
consolidated on the successes of their predecessors.
Earlier, the FOMWAN National President, Hajia Amina
Omoti, urged the state government to look into the issue of
the teaching of Islamic Religious Studies in public schools
in the state.
Omoti also solicited for government’s moral and financial
support for the effective running of the association.

shocking revelation in a radio interviewed when asked why he was divorcing his wife.
“...I thought they were my children but upon a DNA test, I got to know that they are not my biological
children. The issue is in court so I’m pleading, because it is a legal issue I don’t want to go through so
many things, but I am 100% sure that the children are not mine after 20-years of marriage. We had five
children but two passed away so we were left with only 3 and they are not mine" The former Aston
Villa player told reporters
Meanwhile, his estranged wife Gloria Lamptey (pictured above) is claiming that it was Lamptey who

The Obama administration is offering to destroy
some of Syria's deadliest chemical weapons in
international waters aboard a nearly 700-foot,
U.S. government-owned ship, U.S. officials told
The Associated Press on Wednesday.
The plan, still subject to final approval, would
involve destroying the weapons, likely aboard
the MV Cape Ray in the Mediterranean Sea, with
U.S. Navy warships patrolling nearby.
This approach would avoid the vexing
diplomatic, environmental and security
problems posed by disposing of the materials on
any nation's soil.
The Obama administration has used
international oceans in other sensitive cases
where land-based options were precluded. The
U.S. Navy buried Al-Qaida leader Osama bin
Laden at sea to avoid his tomb becoming an
attraction for extremists. The government has
been questioning terror suspects for as long as it
takes aboard Navy ships since the CIA closed its
secret prisons overseas and President Barack
Obama has refused to send more prisoners to
the detention center at the U.S. base at
Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The decision to proceed with the chemical
disposal plan would be made by the
Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical
Weapons, a global chemical weapons watchdog
agency with 190 member states.
In a statement Wednesday in the Netherlands,
the watchdog agency said the effort to ship
Syria's chemical arsenal out of the country
"continues to pose challenges due to the security
situation on the ground."
No country has committed to disposing of the
chemical weapons on its own soil, which is why
the U.S. offer to destroy the deadliest of the
chemical components at sea is seen as a likely
option.
The U.S. officials who disclosed aspects of the
U.S. portion of the plan spoke on condition of
anonymity because they were not authorized to
talk about it by name.
Jonathan Lalley, a spokesman for the president's
National Security Council, stressed that no
decisions had been made regarding destroying
chemicals outside of Syria.
"We and our international partners are
pursuing alternative means of destruction, and
we will continue discussing with other countries
how they might best contribute to that effort,"
Lalley said in a statement. "We remain confident
that we will complete elimination of the
program within the milestones agreed upon."
The MV Cape Ray is a Virginia-based ship owned
by the Transportation Department. It would host
the destruction of some of the deadliest of
Syria's chemical materials using a process
developed by the Pentagon but never employed
in an actual operation.
The U.S. would use what it calls a mobile Field
Deployable Hydrolysis System to neutralize the
chemical material, making it unusable as
weapons. The system was developed by the
Defense Threat Reduction Agency, which is an
arm of the Pentagon. The titanium reactor uses
heated water and other chemicals to make the
chemical warfare material inert.
According to several U.S. officials, two of the
hydrolysis units would be mounted on the Cape
Ray. It will take some time to retrofit the ship
and conduct training to insure that the process
can be done successfully at sea.
Once the mission is finalized and the Cape Ray is
ready, it would be transferred to control of the
Defense Department's Military Sealift Command.
The ship is owned by the Transportation
Department's Maritime Administration and is
currently based in Portsmouth, Va. It would
have a civilian crew.
U.S. officials said they expect to use U.S. Navy
ships to provide an escort and security for the
operation. There are already a number of Navy
warships in the Mediterranean.
As of Wednesday, U.S. officials said they are still
trying to determine how the chemical warfare
materials would be moved from Syria to the U.S.
ship. They said they expect that another country
will provide a ship for that part of the task.
Officials said they expect a final decision soon
and the operation would begin by the end of the
year.

"You're a widow, go and die!" That's what Governor Adams

Up to 50,000 Ethiopians have been deported from Saudi
Arabia in the past three weeks as part of a crackdown on
illegal workersEthiopian workers stranded in Yemen last year after fleeing
Saudi Arabia
Thousands of Egyptians, Indonesians, Malaysians and
others have also been flown out of the country as the Saudi
government seeks to create jobs for local people by
deporting some of the estimated nine million foreign
workers.
An amnesty for people working in the country without proper
permits expired on November 4 and, since then, planes have
been taking off around the clock to get the workers to their
home countries.
The crackdown has involved tens of thousands of people
being rounded up and has led to disturbances in which
three Ethiopians have been killed. Almost one million illegal
workers had left voluntarily over the past few months.

Comedian Julius Agwu has dragged telecoms giant Etisalat
to court for blocking his business line. He is demanding for
N100million as compensation for jobs lost, contact lost, for
the inconveniences, and for being mistreated by Etisalat
staff. Below is a statement from his lawyer, Festus
Keyamo...
We are solicitors to Mr. Julius Agwu, one of Nigeria's
most sought after entertainers (hereinafter referred to
as "our client") and on whose behalf we write.
Our client is the owner of the Etisalat GSM phone
number 08189555555, which he uses as his business
line. On the 8th of October, 2013, our client travelled
out of the country and returned on the 17th of the
same month. Upon his return, he tried severally to
make calls from the aforestated GSM line but same
could not connect. Not only could he not make calls,
he also could not receive calls on the said GSM line.
This continued for some days until he got a message
that his line had been blocked by the network
provider.
Sequel to the above message, our client promptly visited
your Abuja office at Hilton to report the matter. He was
attended to by one Miss Joan, who informed him that
somebody swapped his line. After our client successfully
answered the security questions put to him, he was
informed that his line had been restored, but the credit
balance on the line was not returned.
Surprisingly, our client's aforestated line was blocked
again after he left your said Abuja office. Once again our
client visited your office at the local wing of the Murtala
Mohammed International Airport Ikeja, Lagos to lodge a
complaint, but painfully, nothing was done about it.
However, after sometime, our client was invited for a
meeting at your head office in Lagos on the 14th of
November, 2013 which he duly honoured. Present at the

Goes ballistic on radio show

Kanye West is gradually losing it...and yes it's still a
laughing matter. Despite recent reports that he's lost
popularity by 66%, he still thinks he's the best thing
since...
While criticizing big corporations and especially Nike for
not giving him much backing for his Nike Air Yeezy
sneaker collaboration project on Sway in the Morning,
Kanye said:
"I am standing up and I'm telling you I am Warhol. I
am the number one most impactful artist of our
generation. I am Shakespeare in the flesh, Walt
Disney. And who's going to be the Medici family and
stand up and let me create more? Or do you want to
marginalize me till I'm out of my moment."
When radio host Sway asked him why he won't empower
himself instead of begging corporations to back him, Kanye
went absolutely ballistic! Y'all need to watch the video.
Find it after the cut...

A 21 year old Nigerian named Kayode Oshin (pictured
right), who uploaded a video on YouTube boasting about
trying to murder a rival with a machine gun was jailed for
22 years yesterday, Daily Mail reports. His accomplice,
Junior Tahir-Akinyele (pictured left) was jailed for 14
years.
"Kayode Oshin, 21, attempted to assassinate Yassin
Zouaiou with a Mac 10 in a feud over drugs and
money in Hounslow, west London, after being enticed
into a world of gang culture and crime’, a court heard.
Mr Zouaiou survived when the gun jammed - but a
single bullet was fired, hitting his brother Mohammed
Ali Subhani in the neck. But Oshin then posted a rap
video bragging about the shooting on YouTube.
The shooting was carried out in an alleyway between North
Drive and Kingsley Road, Hounslow, at around 1am on
October 6, 2011, the court heard.
Oshin and a second man, Junior Tahir-Akinyele, 19, were
arrested the next day in a white Mercedes-Benz they had
hired for the attack.
Jailing Oshin for 22 years and Tahir-Akinyele for 14 years,
Judge Timothy Pontius said the pair had been ‘enticed into
a world of gang culture and crime’.
‘Oshin you are convicted of attempted murder, your clear
intention was that Yassin Zouaiou should die,’ he added.
‘That intention would undoubtedly have been realised were
it not for the fact that the mechanism on the gun jammed,
releasing only one round.'
Oshin was jailed for 22 years for attempted murder; 16
years imprisonment for possession of a firearm with intent
to endanger life and 14 years for wounding with intent, all
to run concurrent.
Tahir-Akinyele was sentenced to 14 years in a Young
Offenders’ Institution for possession of firearms with intent
to endanger life with 12 years concurrent for wounding with
intent.
